Policy

Publication Ethics

The standards we hold ourselves and our authors to. Our approach is informed by guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Editorial independence

Decisions to publish rest with CTE's editors and are based on the quality, originality and relevance of the work. They are not influenced by payment, by commercial partners, or by any person acting on an author's behalf. No one is authorised to promise publication by CTE.

Review

Work considered for our academic list is reviewed by people with relevant expertise who are independent of the authors. Reviewers are asked to declare any conflict of interest and to treat manuscripts as confidential.

Authorship

Everyone listed as an author must have made a substantial contribution to the work and must agree to its publication. Authorship cannot be bought, sold or transferred. Contributions that do not meet this standard should be acknowledged instead.

Originality and prior publication

Authors must disclose whether any part of their work has been published or submitted elsewhere, including as a dissertation, preprint or journal article. Where earlier work is developed into a book chapter, the original is cited and the necessary permissions are obtained. We do not present previously published work as new.

Research ethics and data

Research involving human participants, patient data or other sensitive material must have appropriate ethical approval, and its use must be consistent with any data-use agreement. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce third-party material.

Generative AI

Authors must disclose any substantive use of generative AI tools in research or writing. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of their work.

Conflicts of interest

Authors, editors and reviewers are asked to declare any financial or personal interest that could be seen to affect their judgement. An editor who is also an author in a volume does not take decisions on their own contribution.

Corrections and retractions

If a significant error is found in a published work, we will publish a correction. Where findings are shown to be unreliable or a work is found to breach this policy, we may retract it and will state the reason.

Concerns and complaints

To raise a concern about a publication or about our conduct, please write to info@cambridgetexteducation.com. Every concern is acknowledged and investigated.
